Arashiyama’s Bamboo Forest

In the Arashiyama (嵐山) district of Kyoto, Japan, is the jaw-dropping Sagano Bamboo Grove. The forest was the setting of Japanese novelist and poet Lady Murasaki Shikibu’s acclaimed novel, "The Tale of Genji." There is a walking path that cuts through the bamboo grove and makes for a photogenic trek as light filters through the stalks. The bamboo in the grove is still used to manufacture cups, boxes, baskets and mats in the area.

To view more photos and videos of the bamboo forest, be sure to visit the 竹林の小径 (Kitasaga Bamboo Grove) location page.

Tree House by 6a Architects | via

The extension was designed by 6a Architects to provide a new ground-floor bedroom and bathroom for the London house, which is an amalgamation of two cottages constructed in the 1830s.

A ramped corridor runs parallel to the existing house, negotiating a gentle change in level and allowing access for the mother of the family, who uses a wheelchair. This corridor connects the house’s living room with the new bedroom suite, which extends out into the garden.

Duarte Vitoria has to be a guaranteed name for the art of our days and the days that will come. To follow his work has been the obtaining of an increasing confidence in its passage, made of images without concessions searching for everything but indifference, and indifference is, indeed, what couldn’t be at all waited from this artist, for the undeniable quality and so personal vision of the human being figure . For the new enthusiasm around for the great painting and the timeless art of portraying, Duarte Vitoria is among the young in privileged prominence.

Time is a Dimension | Fong Qi Wei

The beauty of photography, and the same reason the medium is famous for, is freezing time. It gives us the chance to more or less freeze and pull a moment out of it’s context, and make it possible to look at one particular moment again and again, feeding you visual memory. And yet it is nearly impossible to visualize time itself in a photograph. Singapore based photographer, Fong Qi Wei , managed to do so though. By layering different photos of the same spot he shot within 2 to 4 hours, mostly during sunrise or sunset, he creates sequences of time captured in one image.

Zhangjiajie, China by Ian Webb

The city itself was previously named Dayong (大庸), and has a recorded history dating back to 221 BC. Humans lived here along both banks of the Lishui river (the mother river in Zhangjiajie), now within the boundaries of Zhanagjiajie City, very early during the Stone Age. Human settlement in this region dates back 100,000 years, rivaling such famous sites as Xi’an, Beijing and others. In 1986, the Academy of Chinese Social Science discovered Stone Age relics in Cili County, unearthing 108 articles of stoneware; mostly tapered-form, hacked-tamped and plate-shaped works. According to archaeological experts’ textual research, all of these wares were produced about 100,000 years ago. Shortly thereafter, in 1988, the Archaeological Institute of Hunan Province found other relics in Sangzhi County, including three pieces of stoneware which were estimated to have been fashioned over 100,000 years ago.
